This small work came about as I was exploring human migration for a member show with Center of the Arts Evergreen - see gallery photo below.
Tethered Passage - 2025
Tethered Passage explores the quiet tension between movement and stillness, release and retention. A found flight feather — an object defined by air, distance, and freedom — is bound to a muted, painted terrain through delicate, deliberate stitches.
Rather than letting the remnant drift, the thread acts as an anchor, creating a fragile bridge between the weightless path of the bird and the grounded canvas of the landscape. The visible lines of thread do not pin the object down so much as they map a relationship: marking the human impulse to hold onto moments of passage, transition, and flight. It is a study in what it means to preserve a trace of motion without extinguishing its spirit.

The Unbinding - 2025
This mixed-media work examines human migration as both a physical and existential passage toward autonomy. Textured surfaces evoke the shared atmosphere of movement, while atlas circles, arranged in horizontal trajectories, chart the transition from constraint to liberation. Crumpled grey landforms dissolve into blue ocean circles folded as wings, concluding in colorful, flattened circles signifying resolution. A continuous red fiber links each stage yet detaches before arrival, embodying release from imposed boundaries.
Through material transformation and spatial rhythm, the work investigates displacement, resilience, and the essential human drive to locate freedom within the vast cartography of belonging.
As a conceptual interdisciplinary artist I find that using a story board will keep me on focus.
